I do a kind of "sampling" with AcidPro3 where I'll record a a long slab of environmental sound, or talking, or various sound fx into one long track. I then use the extremely fast and friendly Chopper to distribute maybe ten or twenty short snippets onto the track. My question is whether Acidpro regards this as one giant long track (just like a three-minute one shot), or whether it just reads the "chopped" part (say 10 individual hits of two seconds each). My system has not complained about this method, but if it's a stupid way of doing things performance-wise I'll suppose I'll go back to sampling individual wavs in SF and then dropping them into Acidpro. Problem there is that you get masses of tracks each with only one little event.... :( Any thoughts ? |

That's a really good question. I believe that it is, indeed, regarded as a long One-shot; it doesn't matter whether it's the whole One-shot or chopped up. However, because you only use snippets of an event instead of one long event, I want to say your system isn't breaking a sweat about it, especially if it's only one or two total tracks worth and there are breaks between events. There are a couple of ways if you feel uneasy about it. You could set a loop region on a particular part of the track and render it to a new track. If it's short enough (default is between half a second to 30 seconds and is changeable under Options>Preferences on the menu bar and then the Audio tab), it'll turn into a Loop type track. (Loops always use RAM.) You could also simply set your track type to Loop instead of One-shot, but be aware this will eat RAM like candy. A typical 3 minute sample can use as much as ~50 MB or more. Be careful as always. HTH, Iacobus |
