Preview @ 0.5 Frame/s !! How to speed??

Ax wrote on 5/22/2002, 6:10 AM
Hi :!
Well i'm workin' on a project that is relatively simple and i get VERY LOW framerate
in preview window!!
About 0.2 > 1 Frame/s With DRAFT quality in 320 AMAZING (ly SLOW)!!
I have only 8 tracks of Non panned PSD files (1600x1200)
With 2 lens flare FX
One Video Wave FX
and sound.
Well it give me ONLY 1Fps on my Athlon 1800+ 512Mo *RAM
200Go HD and Geforce on Win2ksp2!

Anyone have tips to speed up ??
Cause actually its really hard to preview anything and doing precise job:!:!*
Thanx!!
AX

8 tracks is a lot. Those PSD files are huge! Vegas has to resample them all for each frame they appear in, and that's a lot of data to work through. If you reduced the files to 640x480 first before loading them into Vegas that would help a lot. They will probably look better too since you will size & sharpen them the way you want them to look.

Lens flare and wave are both cpu intensive effects.

You can selectively prerender short sections of the timeline if you need to see transitions at full speed.

what are your project settings?
Ax wrote on 5/22/2002, 12:42 PM
Well project settings are:
720x480 DV NTSC template
all is by default

Thanx Chienworks

i'm just about rezising PSD
But a was neeeding large size for zooning in !!!((

>Sonic EPM: is thetre anyway harware way to have realtime preview? (graphic Card or ever)??

thanx

I wonder if _any_ currently shipping system could preview a project just like this in real time, no rendering or pre-converting of source files. Symphony or AVID/DS, maybe...maybe.

I'd be curious to see how the Boxx/vegas turnkey will handles this project. If you want to ftp the project plus source media I'd be happy to test it out.

Well resizing PSD to 800x600 allow preview @ 1-5fps!))
So Big zomming will be compromized !! ((

>EPM
i'm ok for upload
but i need your agreement of keeping files cause its a work that must be kept
private !!!!

don't send it- too many people have access to this server.

You can use the Shift+B "Build dynamic RAM preview" feature on a section, which you will then be able to view in realtime.

don't compromise the zooming. I create projects with 1600x1200 pics all the time. the biggest factor is RAM in that scenario. you should be using a 1GB of RAM for this project. (at least get another 256MB) also, try using PNG files instead of PSD.

the thing that's really killing your performance in the preview is the 8 layers. are you really compositing 8 layers of 1600x1200 images all at once? try to think of ways to optimize the project by maybe pre-rendering some of the images.

really, you won't get far no matter what you try before you get some serious RAM in that box. (other than downsizing the images which will ruin your zooming)

remember... hi-res images in VV needs RAM RAM RAM!!! good luck! :D

When we select an amount of RAM to be available for "Shift+B" pre-rendering, does VV block that amount of RAM from being available for other purposes (if no pre-renders have been done)?

Correct.
