Subject:I want to record a track but play another track with out them mixed

When I try to record a song I usually have one track(which is the beat). But when I record my vocals are mixed in to make a new track. I want to play the track(the beat) but record vocals seperate. I know how to mute the track but I want to hear it without recording over it. Somebody help!

Read your sound card manual.

You have to tell your sound card where it should be recording from. Sounds like you have it to what it is playing.
