digital second track problems... -ACID Product Family

I am using a compaq 7000 series computer with winme, creativelabs audigy platinum card and 512 megs of ram. I can play the music track and import it with no problem. Using the digital input of course. Here is where the problem comes: I should be able to, and can on my other computer, record the first track and then play back the 1st track in the background while I am recording the voice track...OKay I should have 2 track now, 1 with background music and 1 with voice..Well it wont do it, 1 is background music and the second is background and voice together. I am kind of leaning towards digital problems?! I would appreciate any input.
