How far are the mics from the performers? If the room you're in has smooth hard walls you'll hear echoes. If the microphone is too far away you'll pick up more of the room ambience and less of the pure sound from the performer. Typically vocal microphones should be between 1 and 6" from the mouth. You can cover hard areas of the walls with blankets or towels to cut down on echoes. Let us know how it goes!
