Wait, we already know the specs: Any normal, run-of-the-mill, untweaked-to-perfection typical average-Joe PC. But it doesn't matter anymore--4.0 is coming in a few days. Two-thirds of all the threads in here will instantly become irrelevant. The Brave New World is almost nigh! Power to the Loopers! And the humblest among you (guys with less than 1.6G P4s) shall be exalted! |

Acid 2 runs on my 133 Celeron with 48MB RAM and a 5400 RPM 2GB drive. I've had 6 tracks with a couple of effects. The only time it ever skips is when some other program starts up. Sorry. Couldn't resist ;) |

I had a 600 Celeron with 128 megs and a 7200 drive and it was a complete train wreck--no sync for one-shots, incredible zaps and dropouts. SoFo informed me that the 600 Celeron is equivalent to a 200mz PII as far as Acid is concerned and thus is "not recommended." If 4.0 is not glich-free with a 1G+ Athlon or Intel cpu with 7200 drives, 512 megs and a reasonable but not fanatical amount of systemic optimizing, then SoFo is gonna be laying off way more than the 30% of the workforce they did last year. |

I've said it before, and I guess I'll say it again: You might as well apply the same issue to other apps. That includes Sonar, Logic, Cubase et al. This issue does not belong to ACID alone. I see it all the time on non-ACID forums, with subject lines like, "Sonar clicks and pops-ARRGGGH!," and, "Cubase playback woes." Let's face it: Digital audio is complex enough as it is, no matter what app we're talking about. With each successive version of ACID thus far, the audio fidelity has become better and better. Better audio fidelity=More horsepower. Steinberg made a bold move in announcing that Cubase SX would use Windows 2000 and Windows XP as a minimum OS requirement. I applaud them for that. In the same vein, I wouldn't mind if Sonic Foundry made a similar requirement for the next version of ACID (but I doubt it). It's just time to move forward. Just my 2 cents, Iacobus |

I got soooo much heat when I made the recommendation for Vegas to ditch win98se support. Acid really has come a long way into becomming a PRO app. If Acid 4 has a better way of integrating with vegas I really can't see myself using Sonar 2.0XL as much. Though I must add that I think that Sonar is totally AMAZING and I think that Vegas's audio R&D team needs to take note! I LOVE using DXi's!!!!!Later. |
