Subject:Lose Sound when Press Record Button

I have a wire hooked up my tape player running to the computer. I play my tape player, and I hear the music come out my speakers. When I press record button the sound stops. Then when I stop recording, the sound is back. When I play what I recorded, there's nothing but silence. What should I do to record sound?

You have selected the line in on your sound card for listening, but not for recording. Double click the little yellow speaker icon in the lower right corner to open up the sound card's mixer control panel. Select Options, Properties, Recording, OK. You will need to check the Select box for the Line input. This chooses what gets recorded, as compared to what you hear when you're not recording.
