Is it not possible to do ANY edits/processes, etc. to one channel as opposed to both? Example...I have a valuable piece of audio in which the left ch. has intentionally a 1/2 minute of silence within the context of the performance(the right channel starts right away), but the left ch. needs cleaning up, its from an old tape and I want to reduce/elimminate/insert slience or whatever. SF keeps saying that I can't do anything to just one ch. of a stereo file. Please advise Phil Magnotta |

Hmmmmm, I'm seeing the same thing, but now that I try it on 4.5 and 5.0 it does the same thing. I tried it out in Wavelab 3.1 and didn't have a problem doing the same tasks you mentioned. Usually if I need to silence some noise in a single track, I use the 'mute' command, and haven't had to use the cut command in the past. But I think you're right, Sound Forge should have this ability to do simple cuts and paste and insert silence in a single track of a stereo file. Maybe they do this so you can't screw up the timing between the left and right channel in a stereo file? |

You can do almost any effect or process on a portion of a file, and even on one channel or portion thereof of a file. If you move the cursor above the middle of the left channel you'll see a little "L" appear next to it. Any selections made at this point will highlight the left channel only. The same thing happens with the right channel if you move the cursor below the middle of the right, and a little "R" appears next to the cursor. Once a selection is made, any processes or effects will be applied to only the selected area. Cutting and inserting isn't made easy for a single channel. This would appear to be done because often it makes no sense to alter the time flow for one channel and not the other. However, you can select a section of one channel, copy it, and paste it back to a different location to move a section of just that channel. This may be enough to accomplish what you need to do. |
