to settle an argument, mD has allowed me to demonstrate the difference between a song mastered at 0db in soundforge and that same song re-masterd at 0db in wavelab. the song is called: "the worst that could happen" before: http://www.acidplanet.com/Lounge/Detail.asp?PID=107573 after: http://www.acidplanet.com/Lounge/Detail.asp?PID=175536 **DOWNLOAD THE 192K MP3 VERSIONS AND VIEW THEIR WAVES FOR TRUE COMPARISON** |

Well, not really an argument... I should duly note that I'm no mastering...err...master. Now that I think about it, using one of my past projects to remaster is a poor idea to use as a comparison, as I really didn't sculpt the sound like groovewerx did in his remaster. Not so long ago, I just made sure that I approached 0.0 dB without clipping. I'm learning though...ever so slowly. Still, I would love to hear about the issue straight from the Sonic Foundry gurus. (Where are you people, anyway? You've been a little quiet.) I still don't think it's an issue of an app not being up to the task, but the skill of the person using the app. Iacobus |

i agree that it was not an argument. i just used that for lack of a better word. all i did was add compression and minor eq to the track to get it to "true" 0db. no sculpting. the difference you heard was steinberg's audio engine at default. big difference huh? if you want, i can sculpt it like a true master...:D actually i'd like to master your next because you do such a great job getting them to that point. btw mD, are you using vb or html for posting links? |

Duh...EQ...who would've thought of that one, right? (Not me.) :o) I'm using standard HTML to post links. Use the good ol' "a href=http://..." tags. Iacobus |

Mind if I take a crack at mastering it in SoundForge 6.0a? I think I can top your file! RiRo |

Actually, a remastering contest sounds like a pretty cool idea. Would be interesting to hear different aspects of production... Let me get back to you all on this. Iacobus |
