Ok I am not trying to mix apples and oranges. Just want to know if they are simlar in some ways. I have VV3 with me and would like to know if the recording/plug-in quality abilities are the same as Sound Forge. As VV3 includes XFX 1-2-3 too I wonder if it uses them as efficiently as in S.forge? My main intention is too record and EQ vocal speech (maybe some noise reduction), nothing musical. Thank you in advance for the help. |

Vegas should supply everything you need and more so. There are very few editing tasks that SoundForge supports that Vegas doesn't. Probably the nice thing about Vegas in your situation is applying effects in real time. |

Thanks Chienworks for the answer, I didn't know that S.forge didn't do realtime FX But reading your message again "Probably the nice thing about Vegas in your situation is applying effects in real time" you didn't specify that Sound Forge couldn't.. Correct me if I am wrong. BTW, tumbs up for your website helping out VV3 users to upload their creation. Nice work ;) |

Sound Forge 5 will let you preview effects in more or less real time. Sort Of. Almost. Maybe. But to really hear the effect it must be applied to the sound file which can be a time consuming operation. Sound Forge 6 contains a plugin chainer which might allow real time effects. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet though. Vegas allows you to add, delete, and modify effects while the track is playing. |

I just downloaded the demo version of SF6.0 and the plug-in chain works well. I am still unsure if I should get Sound Forge or just stick with VV3 capabilities. I never use sound forge before as an editing tool, VV3 is my first Sonicfoundry product (this was a gift from a friendly pro VV3 user if not, I would have never been able to afford it LOL) It seems the right time to get SF6 'cause I got a promotion number in my e-mail box to get it at 149 u$. June 30 is coming soon, the clock is ticking!!! end of promotion is dawning :) Ok thank you again Chienwork for your quick response to my query, now I have to decide if it will be worth it to buy SF6.0 or would it be better to just be content with what I got already...I hate decision making ;) |

For me, the primary reason to upgrade to SF 6 was to get the bundle that included the Noise Reduction plugin. I got both for less than the usual cost of either alone. Very nice deal :) |

Chienworks, How much did you pay for the bundle? did you buy direct from Sonicfoundry's website? |

As a SF5 licensee, i was entitled to a $129.95 upgrade for SF6 or $199.95 for the SF6 & NR2 bundle. I ordered directly from the website. If you have any other SF license besides SoundForge, i believe you're entitled to $199.95 and $299.95 prices respectively, but i didn't save any of those eMails so i can't tell you for sure. |

Ok thank you for all your answers Chienworks...I think I will stick with VV3 to do my editing audio work...it seems up to the task and sometime an overkill for what I want to do. I got the hang of the video side already but I still have a lot to learn before I know it's full potential in the audio side. I will most probably get the noise reduction plug-in to help me out clearing up the old audio tapes. Shaun |

A few dodgy answers back there. Yes SF 6 allows real-time preview of applied effects via the plugin chainer. It also allows instant 'in place' editing. There are *many* more editing possibilities in SF. That's because it is an editor rather than the multitrack record app that VV is. SF is restricted to record one or 2 channels (mono or stereo). The only rfeature 'missing' wrt Vegas is the implementation of volume and pan envelopes. You can do it, but it's not quite as intuitive. |
