Subject:Can a song be identified on the basis of a used sample

Over the years i've created a lot of acid songs. Usually the songname doesn't correspond with the songname i've used for the final mixdown to wav or mp3. So i sometimes try to find the acid-song from the past and my only reference is a specific sample used in that song (from which i know the name). If i view an acd-file with for instance wordpad i notice that the samples are named in there. But if i search the archive with acd-songs with the name of the sample, i can't find it .... Question: is there a way to search a song-archive for a sample used in a specific song, without having to open all the songs ? |

No. Maybe what I could suggest is write down the tracks used in the project and file it. Since you have a large collection, I'd even go so far as to create a database of projects with tracks used. (An example of a popular database is Microsoft Access or Microsoft Works (which includes a database).) You could then use filters to find what you need. HTH, Iacobus |

if the samples are listed when you view them in notepad, perhaps you could use a utility like "grep" to search within a directory for the particular string you are looking for. For more information on grep, type it in your favorite search engine. There are PC version of grep. You can also use a program called textpad (a beefier version of notepad) to open several files at once and search through them for the particular string. |

I agree with Iacobus. What I do when I'm working on an Acid project is to keep a listing of all loops used in MS Word. Any spread sheet or data base would work as well. I keep that document in the same folder with the Acid project file and all the loops. Just make a new folder for each song. When you save your project do it with “Save As” and check “copy all media with project”. This probably won’t help you now, but it’s certainly something to try in the future to avoid the problem you’re having. I’ll always keep my projects in their raw form so that as I get better with Acid, I can always go back and retool a song. Not only that, but if I want to reuse a loop on another project I can go right to it! |

This is slightly on the side, but AnalogX has made a DX-notepad plugin (among other esoteric ones). Check out: http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio.htm |
