Subject:ACID vs. Vegas?

I typically use ACID as my multitracker/recorder, meaning I build the entire track start to finish. I usually don't leave plug-ins in a chain, I commit the effect to the track audio so when I pull it up, it is exactly as I intended. I record, one track at a time, right into ACID and make my loops from there. I also record full track(i.e.: solos, strings, etc.) as well. The question is: except for the ability to combine loops and audio on the same track, WHY would I use Vegas to mix? In fact, at this point, I don't use Vegas at all. Are there any advantages to using it at this point. I mean, I'm mixing and tweaking as I go in ACID so when I get to the end I've got a full mixed track. It just doesn't seem to make sense to rebuild the entire track again. (Although, I think ACID and Vegas use different audio processes, Vegas definitely has a "pro" sound to it.) Anyway, am I missing the point? Any thoughts? |

well, this seems like a good time to ask: what is the major diff btw. Vegas and ProTools? I mean, I've been on quite a few seesions now where ProTools is being used and it doesn't seem to have anything on Vegas as far as functionality, editing, automation, etc. I've always thought ProTools was overrated but the more I'm exposed, my view is only confirmed. So aside from being industry standard(and the fact that SoFo dropped the pro audio ball totally), what is the deal on ProTools? |

Vegas is a little easier and more straightforward for editing long takes, such as recording a piece of music rather than just a loop. Vegas also allows recording of multiple tracks simultaneously. In these ways, it much more resembles a traditional multitrack recorder than ACID does. On the other hand, if you don't need those features and you're mostly slicing & dicing loops, then ACID is much better for you than Vegas. |
