Hello everybody, I need some advice, can anyone help?

I am just about to invest in a Carillon Audio PC but am stuck with regards to what software to buy. I have been advised that the Digidesign 001 with Pro Tools LE 5.1 is the best for home studio music production but I want to keep my options open. I currently have Acid DJ which I have been very pleased with and love the easy to use loop based operations. I would like to continue along that route upgrading to Acid Pro 3.0. Now my question is:

Would it be a waste buying both systems or does Acid Pro 3.0 interact well with Digidesign and Pro Tools? and what extra features would I be gaining?

Basically I need some advice on the subject can you help?

With ACID Pro, you'll be able to render the complete tracks in your projects as separate tracks (complete with FX added, etc.) for use in another program such as Logic or Pro Tools. It's the only version of ACID that can do this.

That's the biggest thing I can think of when being able to use ACID Pro with another program (in addition to 24-bit support).

For a complete comparison between the versions of ACID, click here.

well, as mD said, Acid Pro lets you export all of your tracks. Problem is PT LE only has MONO tracks (here I go again...)so this means 24 mono tracks or 12 stereo pairs, however if you use XP or 2000, there is an upgrade on the digidesign site which gives you 32 tracks mono or 16 tracks stereo. I'd wait though, the Digi002 is gonna be announced at NAMM tommorrow so you might wanna check it out. Here's a pic:

If you can deal with the track limitiation, I got two words for Pro Tools: SUH. WEET.

Thanks for the info guys, i'm not looking to buy for a couple of months so it might be worth holding out for the 002, any ideas on the price - bearing in mind i'm in the UK and stuff like this is normally twice the price... DOH!!!

I would also encourage you to consider a Sonic Foundry setup; Vegas 3, Sound Forge 6, and Acid Pro 3. In terms of ease of use and some other functions, many folks put Vegas way ahead of Pro Tools LE. But as with everything, there's pros/cons to each.

That's the setup I'm running now...works great. Vegas sounds very good but ProTools sounds fecking INCREDIBLE.

Do you lose any sound quality when you export your ACID tracks to load into Pro Tools? Is anything lost, or will it sound exactly as you hear it in ACID?

Thanks.

Also, are there any trial versions of Vegas out there? I don't know much about that program but assume that it handles MIDI and audio files with more aplomb than ACID?

The only time you would loose any quality importing audio files is if you were changing the sample rate and bit rate down ie. you have a 24/96 audio file but your ProTools session is 16/44.1 so ProTools has to sample/bit rate convert to a lower quality otherwise no loss of quality would incurred.
