Removing vocals are never easy. A *lot* of messages have been posted here about that topic.
Be aware that *removing* vocals is impossible. Vocals can be reduced, that's all.
The basic method is : keep the stereo sound and remove the mono sound, considering that the vocals are panned at the center. Of course, other sounds are likely to be reduced: bass drum, bass and any other instrument at the center.
Some tools use other parameters (like frequency filters) for better processing.

Try this :
1. Invert the phase of one channel
2. Convert the file to mono (Channels: Stereo to Mono , 50% each channel)

The quality of the result depends on the orginal wave. If the original sound is mono, all sounds will be eliminated. The reverb for the vocals is often stereo and is kept. If the voice is dry (no reverb) and the music full stereo, the result might be spectacular (e.g. some songs on Jewel's latest album).

Other good tools for reducing vocals: DART karaoke and Vogone.

Good luck.
