Subject:questions regarding sound cards

Hello, I am a songwriter who is in the process of configuring a new home-based system running Windows XP and using the Acid Pro 3.0 (or soon Acid Pro 4.0) application. I would like to know which sound cards out there deliver true 24-bit performance system-wide (i.e., on recording and playback). Your comments and suggestions may wind up saving me a lot of time, money, and aggravation in the long run. I am also interested in learning of any or all recommended microphone interface cards or units for the same (described above) system. Sonic Foundry maintains a policy of not recommending specific manufacturers, so I am looking to help from actual Acid Pro users who have had experience with these issues. Thank you so much. Your kindness will not be forgotten. Please write to me via this forum initially. Thank you.

all best,
epipen

hey, ummm, sorry for the off-topic reply, but isnt the "epipen" that shot you take if youre allergic to bumble bees and get stung?
My friend has that :)

as far as soundcards, Terratec looks really nice but you are looking for people that have acutally USED these things (which is truly a smart thing to do) and I never have, so I really couldnt help you. Just make sure it has low-latency, and at least 8 seperate inputs. (IMHO)

i suggest either the M-Audio Audiophile or the Terratec EWX ...both are 24/96 and have superb latency. i own the Terratec and couldnt be happier...cept that its Audio only..so if you got any midi tracks...dont expect to hear them.

Tank you, Mr. Sinister. I appreciate your recommendation. I will check out your recommended sound cards for sure. Does the Terratec accept the standard large-size three hole type microphone inputs (you know, from the better microphones)? I think they're called XLR inputs. Or do you need a separate I/O box? Also does the Terratec
have optical in and out?

Thank you.

yes, an epi pen is a "portable" epinephrine shot that people who are allergic to bee stings carry around with them "just in case." The "just in case" is a severe allergic reaction that can progress to anaphylactic shock if not treated. Benadryl is a handy little pill to keep on hand as well. (An Antihistamine). But that won't work as fast as the epipen, which can be literally life-saving in certain circumstances. As a second year medical student, I am supposed to know these things. :)

Anyway, thanks for your reply, which I appreciate. I'm going to check out the Terratec. I got another e-mail from someone here who is actually using it. He says he couldn't be happier with it.
Thanks again.
all best, Joel
