As the subject says, can AcidPro4 accept reatime MIDI input ? The SoFo PDF on AcidPro4 says you can input in step-time and that you can EDIT using the new piano roll, but it nowhere says that you an actually input MIDI notes in realtime (ie: while the song is playing). This was also asked on the KVR-VST forum but I immediately assumed that "of course" you'd be able to real-time input from a keyboard. Now I'm not so sure. Can one of our kind SoFo people confirm what MIDI input capabilities it will have ? thanks |

mmh, i'd assume this would be implemented as well. what good is VSTi support if you can't play things live during play? what are your reasons to doubt this will be in ACID 4? |

If you read the SoFo PDF it says only "midi piano roll editing". Editing means modifying something which already exists. The only place "recording" or "input" gets mentioned is in the step sequencer. Maybe I'm getting paranoid, but . . . I agree that MIDI editing without the ability to directly input (except via a mouse!) would be next to useless - which is why I'm hoping to confirm this with SoFo. If it can't then I'll stop get being so excited about version 4 and contemplate some other beautious thing in the universe instead. If I remember correctlty AcidPro3 can accept midi input in real time - but can't edit ? In this respect it would certainly be a painful tradeoff if AcidPro4 lost realtime input but gained editing. But in my job I've learned never to assume anything . . . |

You can record MIDI in real-time. The recording interface for ACID has not changed from ACID 3. You can monitor your MIDI input through single or multiple softsynths or external MIDI ports. ACID has a one input to many output thru model, all selectable and soloable. The only limitation is that during recording, you only can monitor through a selected output. Was too confusing to have a solo MIDI thru matrix hanging out in the record dialog. MIDI can be live all the time as well. That is, you can playback your softsynths (or thru to your hardware synths) during playback, or when idle. The step record is just a means for those musically challanged to record notes in the list editor. Peter |

Thanks Peter. I was being paranoid about this, but then stranger things have happened. When this same question was asked at KVR-VST I was so sure you could, I "bet my house" the answer was yes. Glad to find I still have somewhere to live. |
