Does anyone know how to disable the redrawing of window contents while resizing a window in a Sonic Foundry application (obscure setting, reg. hack, whatever)? Sofo apps seem to ignore the Display Properties setting that control this. Read on... I just installed Acid Pro 3.0g onto a Win2K Professional system, and was disappointed when the audio skipped and the app froze whenever I would resize, say, the mixer window (Win 98 SE never had this issue). After ensuring that ACPI was not the culprit, downloading and installing the latest drivers for all my hardware, and monkeying around with all kinds of resolution/color depth/acceleration combinations, the problem persisted. I noticed that resizing was very jerky, so I deselected "Show window contents while dragging" in the Display Properties/Effects tab. Acid did not recognize the change. To test the effect of this, I opened the Paint application and resized the window while an Acid project was running -- no audio issues. Then I reselected "Show window contents while dragging" in the Display Properties/Effects tab, resized the Paint window while Acid was playing a project, and voila! my audio problem returned: skip, skip, skip - HANG. By the way...same problem with Vegas Video 2.0 (I didn't even want to try Sound Forge 5.0). If anyone has the answer, PLEASE let me know. Thanks. |

Try turning down the accleration for your video card a couple notches to see if that helps. (Video acceleration typically hogs system resources when jacked up all the way.) Be sure your video and/or your soundcard is not sharing resources with other devices in your system. HTH, Iacobus |

Thanks for your response. I actually have tried those measures as well. Windows seems to want to always assign my Aardvark 24/96 soundcard and my on-board usb device to the same IRQ. Perhaps that's because the breakout box is powered from the computer, as are usb devices. Anyway, even disabling the on-board usb so that there were no longer any conflicts did not solve the problem. The video acceleration adjustment makes the problem worse the less I apply. I'm at my wit's end. The only thing that I have found that I think would help is if I could make the sofo apps not try to paint a window's contents as it is being dragged. Maybe that is hard-coded functionality required for accurate painting of track events. I'm going to call up the help desk on Monday to see if I can get a resolution to this issue. Again, thanks - and let me know if you have any other suggestions. |

Try also setting setting the "Plug and Play OS" setting in your BIOS to "No" per Microsoft's suggestion. Disabling ACPI altogether if it's enabled could also cure the problem. More info can be found here. HTH, Iacobus |
