Alright, so with the increased MIDI implementation and introduction of VSTi that will be in 4.0, I've decided to take the plunge. So I guess what my overall question(s) is/are what should I be expecting? I'll probably buy the Oxygen 8 or something in the same range as that, and probably one of the Native Instruments softsynths. So what else goes into this? Will I be needing a different soundcard (I currently only have the Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128D)??? Will my 256 Megs and 40GB hard drive be enough? Should I beef up my PC before I go MIDI? I just wanted to ask before I start spending money. Thanks for the help. |

I would guess that you need some kind of MIDI interface with your computer. If you are going to use softsynths, you will need a MIDI controller of some kind (you DON'T want to enter notes with just your mouse--trust me on that one). MIDI actually isn't very hard on the processor of a computer--the audio is much more demanding. So, if your system can handle the audio side of Acid, it will certainly handle the MIDI side. I'm sure some others here will add to this, but this is my $.02. Peace |

Acid would be considered my MIDI interface right? Or am I missing something here? Sorry for the stupid questions. Thanks. |

I think what DJ Don was saying is that you have to have a physical port to get your MIDI notes from the controller into the machine--I don't recall if the SB 128 has a gameport(MIDI connection) or not. If you have USB ports on your computer, you can just hook the Oxygen8 up with that. I have an Oxygen8 and love it--it's a little plastic-y, but has more than enough value for such a low price. Joel |
