When I attempt to record audio in ACID, the meter jumps up to about -40 somewhere and the resulting audio track comes out sounding really staticky and awful, almost as if it were recording at a lower bitrate. It does wether or not I am multi-tracking. The strange thing is that SoundForge records perfectly. I would simply use SoundForge, except than I *really* need ACID's multi-tracking capacity.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of noise artifacting in ACID? If so, what did you do to troubleshoot the problem? Any advice would be a great assistance, because I am completely stumped! Thanks!

I'm using an SoundBlaster AWE 64 Gold on Win2k OS.

Hmm. How is everything connected to the AWE 64? And what is used for recording? (Guitar? Keyboard?)

Make sure that if you have ACID Pro, to select the AWE 64 specifically under, "Record device," in the Record window. (Might want to also go to Options>Preferences on the menu bar and under the "Audio" tab, select "Windows Classic Wave Driver" under "Audio device type" and the AWE 64 specifically under "Default audio playback device". Again, this is in ACID Pro only.)

I'm using ACID Pro 3.0 and I am recording from a microphone through the mic in. Set to either record device, I still experience the same noise/artifacting. This is especially strange since I don't have this problem recording audio in SoundForge. Any other advice you might be able to offer would be of *tremendous* assistance. Thanks for your reply!

Be sure you're recording at around 16-bit/44.1 kHz. I believe the AWE only goes that high in resolution and sample rate.

If you record the track in Sound Forge, are you able to bring the track into ACID and play it back just fine that way? Can you play back multitrack projects generally fine in ACID Pro?

you need to check your properties,(under file in Acid), click the audio tab, check you sample rate and bit depth (might need to be 44k and 16) Your sound card might not be able to sample at a higher rate

What they said (imagine up arrow here)

I took a quick peak at your sound card specs and they're right it's 16/44.1
