Hi, I've been doing recordings off of satellite TV, and on certain channels the waveforms are asymetrical around the centerline. In other words the upper half of the waveform has greater amplitute than the lower half, probably by about 50-75% - Not just for peaks, but overall I have checked DC Offset & this is not the issue, silent parts are centered right on the centerline. This happens with vocals, music, sound effects etc., so it can't be an issue with microphone diaphragm range. It only happens on certain channels, so it's not any of my equipment. First of all, is this a bad thing or not? If it's bad, and since I can't fix it at the source, is there any processing I can apply to the waveform to fix it? It seems like another person had a similar issue, but no resolution was found: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=59001&Page=0 Thanks, Jon |

Does it sound OK? If so, i wouldn't worry about it. The recordings i make at church are always like this. One correction that might help is compression, which will chop off the peaks more on the higher side of the zero line than on the lower side. However, depending on the material, it might sound worse when compressed. If it doesn't bother your ears, ignore it ;) |

Chienworks, I do church work also, and would like to ask some questions relating to church sound/ audio production. I checked your website and did not see an email addy. If it would not be too much trouble, could you go to http://RichLyons.org and click the email there and contact me? rich / AKA RiRo |
