I alterd a file and SAVED AS the proper "wav" file name and it sounds great as long as I listen to it in the ACID program, but if I try to listen to the same file outside of ACID all changes are lost...any ideas?

Sound different? In what way? (Louder? Softer?) What program are you using to listen to the file?

The sound file is and engine reving.
I changed it from the key of A to the key of G...big difference, so the pitch was much higher, but when I saved the file and played it in Media player or any other Windows based sound player, it reverts back to the old sound.
It is as if I had never modified the file.

If you're saving a project file, then the file hasn't actually been changed. Load your file into Acid, change the pitch, go to File/Render As, select a format, click "Save". Now you should have a file that sounds different.
