I recently upgraded Win 98SE to XP Pro and then converted my FAT32 drives to NTFS. When I tried to open my Sonic Foundry products, I got a message that they were not installed properly. I had to uninstall, reinstall, and reregister them. After doing so, I first went into the program Options to see if my preferences had been retained. In both Sound Forge 6.0 and Vegas Video 3.0, I get a BSOD and physical memory dump when I click on the CD option tab. I have a Plextor 2410 and other software that uses the burner seems to be working fine. The error message in the BSOD references EUSBMSD.SYS. I have an Olympus SmartMedia reader and a Sony Memory Stick reader attached, but I had updated the drivers to XP-compatible ones. Thanks for any help. |

Yeah, I've seen this with the Microtech Zio! SmartMedia reader and I think MS is getting sloppy with their certification. USB devices that use EUSBMSD.SYS (the SmartMedia thing) masquerade as scsi 15 so we check 'em for burn capabilities. When we ping them with a very benign "Is device ready" message, they explode. If you "safely remove" the devices (or whatever the popup option is called to unplug it) before scanning, you shouldn't crash. Other apps probably do not scan wide scsi (8-15), so they never hit this guy. If we don't see this fixed in eusbmsd.sys soon, we'll probably add an internal pref to skip wide scsi IDs. Sorry for your problems. J. |
