I was asked by sonicPCH: As far as the over dubbing problem: How would you envision this working? That is, you just recorded your vocal/lead track. You decide that from bar 12 to 16 the "lead" sucks. How would you want to "punch" in or comp this in ACID? well, That is hard, because there is no "arm" button. if there were an arm button, you could record a trak, and then Just like in Vegas Video (which is a totally different architecture I realize) you could just move the cursor to bar 12 and start recording. You would have to peel back the parts just right, and there, In vegas, its a seamless edit.... why not acid? well, Acid is one File per track. By recording again on the same track, that trak has references to 2 seperate files. Not Very Acid like. Maybe, you could have an option that would combine two tracks..... I wonder if you could use the mixdown file thingy for this!!!!! Like for instance..... say if you record vox.... you dont like bars 12 thru 16. (Optional: you delete and/or peel back the section that sucked.) you put your cursor at bar 12 and you hit record. then you choose the option :start from cursor: you record into a new track the part you wanted to redo. (if you didnt already HERE is where you would delete and peel back the unwanted performance!!!!) then you peel back your NEW performance so that its only under bars 12-16. (in other words, it would fit into the original performance like a puzzle peice.) then you combine the files together and you have WHALLA ONE TRACK! thats really not too hard... did ANYONE UNDERSTAND ME?...would the mixdown file command do this, or can you quick before the release oof 4.0 put in a command that could so this really easy? |

oh...it renders ALL present trax to a new trak. If there was a way to SELECT the tracks you want to combine, overdubbing really wouldnt be to hard with the theory I have above. you should really do something like this. it would help, SO MUCH! |

This is an approach, but what you end up with is a very destructive type edit. In the end what you are doing is using two track anyway. Why not just record a new take on the new track. You are already "peeling" back the stuff you don't want in the original track. In a sense your approach is a work around that already exists. The issue is the one track == one file. This is hard to overcome with out getting destructive in your edits. Peter |
