As long as your hardware has 6 descrete outputs you can use just about any card.

We tested with many. With some cards you will have to use the ASIO drivers - for example the Audigy does not expose its individual front/rear/center/LFE channels through Wave emulation.

Hello,

I use a Delta Dio 2496 Optical output to a Surround reciever then out to 5.1 speaker setup.
It works great.
You can get a 300watt reciever for under $200.00 at Radio Shack that has a optical input, And the Delta card is about $200.00 as well.

Really? In ACID 4?

We don't encode to an AC3 digital stream in ACID 4. Does the Delta Dio encode to AC3 on the fly?

I know i could probably find this info by doing some indepth research, but i figure i'll ask and see if anyone knows off the top of their heads. Is it possible to get a SB live platinum to output six channels? it sounds like its possible with the audigy with the asiao drivers. Any info would be appreciated

Hello,

Not sure about AC-3 but I'm using SP/DIF with Delta, I just assumed AC-3 would be the same since my reciever accepts both.

Rocketglider,
Are you able to monitor in surround using the spdif connection with your delta?

I do know that I can use surround with my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 with ACID 4. (It does indeed encode 5.1; I believe the Delta DiO does as well.) Have to use the coaxial S/PDIF out and put that into a receiver/amp that can decode the 5.1 stream via S/PDIF in.

Hello,

Well, put it this way, when I switch channels and select center for example I get sound out of just the center speaker, and then when I pan around with Acids surround panner, I am able to get a surround spacial effect, whether or not it's a true surround I'm not %100 sure, but it sounds like it. I have a Audiophile and a Dio 2496 installed on the same computer, and both provide SP/DIF output, it's just that the Audiophile only has Coaxial, and the Dio has Coax and optical.
But from the response from Peter it sounds like I might be wrong.

Hello again,

Well after further investigation I've discovered that Peter is right and I'm not getting a true SP/DIF output. I'm getting layered channels that are able to be panned around in a circle by the Surround Panner, But I'm also using what is not advised, which is two sound cards with the Delta Multicard Funtion for multiple ins and outs, and there is a little delay effect between the two cards because they don't sync perfectly. But overall it still sounds good, and I'll be able to do true Surround soon I guess. Also on a side note the Automated effects are very cool, especially the track mixer and being able to choose which functions I want to automate, and as many as I want, and together, or independantly.

Very good upgrade, A step in the right direction.
I do have a question for Peter: Will we be able to automate the Surround Panner with envelopes or any other way?

Thanks, Rockitglider

When in surround mode, we use "key frames" to automate surround panning. Give it a try.

- Set your mixer to surround mode
- load a loop and draw out an event
- hit Shift-P (or right click on the track and select "Insert/Remove envelope.") Note that a keyframe area shows below the track.
- Double click on the surround pan controller to open the "large pan view". Dock this window if you'd like.
- Place the main time line cursor at zero and set an intial pan postion for the track
- Place your cursor at some point into the track. Move the red "thumb" in the pan controller. Note that a key frame point is added to the time line. Also not how a "tail" is added to the pan control inicating how the pan will be automated.

It is a very slick way of doing this. (Well I think so...)

Peter
