Hi everybody.
First of all, im french so pliz if u answer to this msg, dont use specific terms that i wont understand. I have a little problem: i have an audio tape on which i have recorded people talking. The volume of their voice depends of the moment. And above all i have much noise. So my goal is to normalize this tape (voice volume would be the same at any time) in addition of REMOVING noises. If u know how to increase volume AND remove noises, pliz help me, i would love to succeed because this tape is very important for me!
Thanks

Hello,

To reduce noise, the best tool is Sonic Foundry's Noise Reduction 2.0 -- the results are going to depend on how loud the voices are compared to the noise. If the noise is very loud, any process that removes it will also affect the voices. There is nothing you can do about that, unfortunately.

As for making them "louder" and "the same volume through out," Normalizing would be a good start, but probably not give you what you want. You need to use some kind of compressor to reduce the peaks and bring the overall volume of the file up. Sound Forge comes with a few compressors, including WaveHammer, which would work fine for this.
