Subject:Ogg Vorbis in ACID

Hi Guys,
I just downloaded the demo of ACID 4.0 and notice that it supports the Ogg Vorbis file format. My question is why is it build on Ogg Vorbis 1.0 rc2? Ogg Vorbis 1.0 was released as final 1.0 a little while ago.

Also, why not use a quality setting as to a bitrate setting for Ogg Vorbis. BTW Ogg Vorbis is a quality setting based encoder.

Cheers!

Quin,

Not sure on when we are planning on upping support to the 1.0 release of the Ogg Vorbis format. I will mention this to our dev team. As for the second question, since the Ogg Vorbis format always uses variable bitrate encoding, I'm pretty sure we are just using an average bitrate setting when you choose to render your file. This is most likely because an average bitrate gives you a better idea of how large your rendered file will be than if a percentage or other relative scale were used. It's also more useful when attempting to compare quality of the files with similarly sized mp3 or wma files.

natem,
Thanks for the reply. Why not implement a choice between a quality setting and an average bitrate setting encode. Hardcore Ogg Vorbis fanatics like myself would prefer a quality setting encode for more control.

Cheers!
