Subject:Performance on XP

I'm about to upgrade my computer, which is very nearly ancient by modern standards. Right now I'm running Win98 SE, and I've been pretty happy with it. The thing is that I'm seriously thinking about getting a dual CPU system, and Win98 doesn't support multiple processors. I'm interested to know what experiences people have had with Windows XP, Professional in particular, both with ACID/Soundforge and in general. I need to make sure this thing will be stable.

Thanks in advance,

I've been running Acid Pro 3.0 and now Acid Pro 4.0 on Windows XP Pro since it first came out and have had no problems at all - very stable and much better (imho) than 98SE, ME or W2k.

I would strongly suggest doing a clean install of XP rather than upgrading.

I have seen audio problems (stuttering and the like) reported in other forums associated with XPs Power Management - this is normally installed by default, but for some reason it didn't install when I set up XP, and I haven't seen any of the reported issues.

You can install XP with Power Management disabled - do a search on Google to find out how. This aside I dont think you will have any problems.

XP likes lots of memory - I would suggest at least 256Mb (Ive got 768Mb!)

There are also a number of sites that have performance tuning tips for XP as an Audio Workstation - again do a Google search to fin them.

Definitely concur that XP is much better too.

Might want to check out MusicXP.net. Some great tips there on using XP as a DAW.
