Subject:Gen. Help w/two souncards?

Hello everybody. I am primarily an Acid user and recently I tried adding an M-Audio 24/96 card to my system. The problem is that I cannot get my old SB Live and my new M-Audio card both installed. I believe the problem is with limited IRQ stuff. According to the tech guys at M-Audio I should be able to install both, but when they walked me through the setup I kept getting the dreaded "yellow exclamation mark". I really only want my SB Live because it is a good midi sound source and does not rely on my cpu for processing(duh). So, I guess what I am asking is....in the world of computers(motherboards, bios, etc) are there the same amount of IRQ settings in all mobo's or do you get more available addresses depending on how good your mobo is? If anybody has had success with this similar two card setup, please post a possible fix. I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks, Luces |

Hello Luces, I used to have both a SB Live and an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 in the same system without a problem. (I have since ditched the SB Live, if only because I don't play games on my computer anymore and don't have much use for Soundfonts.) That may have been because I freed up as many IRQ's as possible on my motherboard in my system's BIOS. For instance, because I use a USB mouse, I can disable the P/S 2 mouse support in my BIOS, freeing up an IRQ (which is usually IRQ 12) to be used by another device. Because I don't have a printer connected to my system, I can disable the parallel port in the BIOS, freeing up another IRQ (which is typically IRQ 7). (I have another computer that has a printer connected, if you're wondering.) You could try to do the same if you have a similar setup. You could also try to take the SB Live out and just use the Audiophile. The Audiophile 2496 has MIDI I/O anyway. It may not have Soundfonts and isn't the greatest for games, but in the realm of music production, it owns the Live. HTH, Iacobus |

Hello, I also had the same setup as MD, and I had to disable both my serial com ports in BIOS and haven't missed them one bit. See ya, Rockitglider |

Oh, yeah. The serial ports. I completely forgot that I disabled them too (freeing up IRQ's 3 and 4). :) Iacobus |

Thanks for the tips! Disabling the ser. port was the answer. Thanks a ton! |
