Subject:Acid 4 : Where are the MIDI patch names ?

1- Where are the MIDI patch names, in relation with the General MIDI standard ? I don't see this information anymore in Acid 4. 2- In Acid 3, the patch is displayed but there is a bug : it seems impossible to program the drum set "Standard1" (program change 0) : the display turns to <none>. The same problem occurs with other non-drums parts. 3- Is there a way to edit the patch names ? They depend upon the sound module used. For example, Roland SC-88pro has 25 drums sets and they are not all listed. |

There is no means in ACID 4 to use patch names or to edit patch names. Basically ACID 4 does not have a patch librarian tool to mananger patch names. In the list editor we choose the default GM name as a helper, but this is only to help when using the DLS synth and the default patch names. There is no standard for using patch names between instruments and we have not develope our own mechanism to permit the exchange of patch name information between VSTis and external hardware. This is something that we will look at for a future version of ACID. Peter |

Thanks for your reply. What about question 2 ? 2- In Acid 3, the patch is displayed but there is a bug : it seems impossible to program the drum set "Standard1" (program change 0) : the display turns to <none>. The same problem occurs with other non-drums parts. |

The same problem occurs with other non-drums parts. << The DLS synth in both ACID 3 and 4 does not permit drum patches to be used on any channel other than 10 (11 also, if the GS sysex msg is sent to tell the synth to treat channel 11 as a drum channel) Is this what you are asking? Peter: Maybe so, but he wanted the answer on your holiday and on his time frame, I guess. TeeCee |

No, that was not my question. Here is the problem : 1- Download this MIDI sample. 2- Create a new project in Acid 3.0g and insert the MIDI track 3- Go to Track Properties , Voices tab. You see channel "10" (drums), program "Standard". 4- Now, change the channel to another value (e.g. channel 3). Click to open the scrollbox. Now, the track is no more drums but a standard voice. Select "Piano2" : as far, it's OK. But here is the problem: now, try to select "Piano1" by double clicking it in the scrollbox : it does NOT work, it remains "Piano2"... It seems to happen with the first item in the list, because other instruments are selectable. However, by pressing the return key instead of a double click for selecting the instrument, it works in all cases. I know that it's a minor bug but I wanted to clarify my previous message. Regards |
