Hi..

[SF6.0a (build 150)/win98/AMD XP1900+/512DDR RAM]

I got this error:
"An unknown file error has occurred. Check to make sure you have enough free space in the temporary directory"

while trying to (cut'n'paste) replace the audio data in an AVI file (702Mb) with a wav file (301Mb)

I use a PC with 1Gb Free in C drive and 8Gb Free in D drive.
I have the temp directory set to D:\tmp in the preferences of sound forge

maybe SF is using (or trying to) the windows TEMP folder which is placed in drive C.

Anybody got this problem?
How can I assure Sound forge is really using the temp folder configured in "options/preferences/perform/Temoprary files and record folder"?

I'm sure this operation DON't need 8Gb of free space!

Any idea/tip is welcome

Thanks

Sam

I doubt this is it, but when you change the temp folder you must restart Sound Forge before it takes effect.

The audio in the .avi is probably being proxied, which, like a peak file, will go next to the .avi itself, and may be close to filling up C. But if the .avi did open successfully, and your temp folder is on D, I'm not sure what would still be looking for space on C.

Have you tried moving all your media to D beforehand?

All,

Please be aware that the Soundforge temp directory has nothing to do with the OS temp directory. During any OS level operations (cut, copy etc...) Soundforge still must give way to Windows itself for this. Soundforge doesn't actually do the work...it passes your copy/cut/paste request to Windows and the Windows subsystem goes to work.

Apps will always give strange errors like this if Windows cannot perform it's own housekeeping...almost certain that this is a Windows resource issue...

Cheers,

Cuzin B

Ah!
Could be, because it´s happen before save changes. So, if I save the previous audio file in D and the error happen, soundforge closed by itself;but when I save the previous audio file in C and the error happen, soundforge create an audio file which one word has repeated syllabe.
How can I avoid it?
Thank´s!!!
