Thinking about getting absynth. How does absynth integrate with Acid? (I assume this is only with v4.0, which I do not have...yet) Is it used as a MIDI device, a plug-in or are you just recording the audio from absynth?

Believe it can indeed act as a VSTi in ACID Pro 4.0. You can check out the demo of it with a demo of ACID Pro 4.0 to see just how it works.

Correct. Absynth can be run as a standalone, or as a VSTi. Works beautifully in Acid excecpt for one tiny little patch selection bug, but I expect it will be fixed by either SoFo or NI soon enough.

I love demos. try demos with demos, and it's all good! That's what sold me on 4.0.

Well, I went ahead and bought absynth, I know I will buy ACID4, just waiting for a few new builds. Just curious though, if I install the acid 4 demo, do I need to remove acid 3 first?

I didn't with Acid 2.0, but it acted a bit weird when I tried to run more than one app at a time.

I am a bit hesitant to try ACID 4, I tried to record an absynth audio track with ACID 3, unsuccessfully, is this possible? I have a delta 1010 card, the only way I can record is via the monitor mixer, which records absynth with all the other tracks?

Correct-a-mundo...sucks don't it? I struggled with that forever and just gave up. The promise of VSTi's is one to keep your fingers crossed for, for sure.

If you are working with ACID 3.0, and running Absynth standalone, then you will have to record into ACID exactly as you describe, there really is simple alternate way to get Absynth's audio into ACID, as they are two seperate programs.

In ACID 4.0, Absynth loads as a VST instrument, right in the software, so there is no "recording" to speak of. It's a soft synth that shows up as a bus in the ACID mixer, and when you play back your project, it's audio is mixed right in. You will not need to "record" Absynth to an audio track before render.

Hi Nate:

was your first sentance a typo? ie

"there really is (No?) simple alternate way to get Absynth's audio into ACID."

To clarify, I can't record absynth audio in acid3 without it mixing with the other tracks, might be a wrong setting with my m-audio card?

Hopefully will be a none issue when I get 4.0a.

Thanks,

L

Sorry about that. Yeah, it was a typo.

What I was saying is that if you are running ACID and Absynth standalone on the same machine, the only way to get Absynth's audio into your ACID project is by recording via loopback Absynth's audio into ACID. This is tricky, and makes it virtually impossible to playback your ACID project and record while you play Absynth live.

Some professional level soundcards have the routing capabilities to allow you to do this without recording ACID's output as well. The way to do this would be to route ACID's playback to a specific pair of outputs, and then to route Absynth to another. Next, set your soundcard to monitor the outputs you have Absynth playing through on a pair of inputs. Set ACID to record those inputs.

This may or may not be possible with your current setup, and, depending on the options you have available, may require an external mixing board to allow you to hear both ACID and Absynth's playback.

I hope this helps,
Nate

i don't understand the question. wouldn't it be easier just to sequence the part in acid and then solo, render, and add the rendered audio file to the current project? "printing to tape" has always been a good way of getting the most out of you gear. oh....you mean 3.0 not 4.0!!! try this: there's a small shareware program called total recorder (i think) it streams any audio running through your computer into a ram buffer in the background and then you have the option to save it as a wav. it's really good for recording streaming audio off the net but should work for your use. just add it to the render part of my instructions.
