I'm curious what others think about the upgrade to 4.0. I'm a 3.0 user whose considering upgrading. The new list of features looks quite impressive, however are they enough to justify me shelling out another 99.00 to upgrade if I'm not a midi user? |

Well Cow, I think you may be going about it the wrong way. Instead of trying to justify $99 for an audio upgrade, why not instead approach it as an opportunity to learn something new? I wasn't much of a MIDI guy myself before I started playing with 4.0. Sure, I knew all about how MIDI worked, and what soft synths were, and why it was cool, etc etc, but it wasn't until I got Acid 4 that everything started making sense. Now I’m like… MIDI nerd now, or something. Have you ever had a loop that you liked, say a chord progression or something, but you wanted it just a tad different? That limitation is gone when you incorporate MIDI, essentially letting you take way more control over your creative work and do it yourself. Not just that, but there's a LOAD of free VSTi's out there that are really cool, so you needn't be intimidated at the thought of buying new hardware. Just a thought, anyway. Now for whatever reason, if you absolutely want to stay clear of MIDI, then the answer to your query depends on what exactly you're doing with ACID. Cuz hey, 5.1 mixing may be your dream feature, or it may not. The same could apply for FX automation and better remixing capabilities. It all depends on what you want, since ultimately, you're the one buying it. If you haven't already, I suggest you download a demo and play around with it to get a better feel for the features. Also, perhaps you could be a little more specific about what exactly you're wanting to do with Acid, so we may better assist you in your decision-making. Regards, Nick |

COW, Look at it this way, where else can you get a $400.00 program for $99.00? But to answer your question, Yes it is worth it even if you're not going to use MIDI. The sound quality and the VSTi support and staying current with the program alone is worth it, I know I've spent $99.00 in much worse ways than a few features I not sure I'm going to use. Go for it Man, Take the Plunge! See ya, Rockitglider |
