In the last few days SF has decided to lock up on me. It opens gives me the temporary files message and no matter what I do, it does not respond. Now I get this message "FORGED.EXE file is linked to missing exort SFCD.DLL:?sfcdi_initialize@YGJPAUHINSTANCE_@@KPAD@Z. What the heck does this mean? I'm running windows ME with a Creative Soundblaster Platinum card.

HarpQueen!

This prolly isn't what you want to hear, but I would uninstall then re-install Forge. When I changed hard drives, I got similar messages. I uninstalled all the Sonic Foundry products and re-installed them. Worked like a charm. Dunno why this happens from time to time, but it does it with everything eventually.

HarpQueen? I take it you play the harmonica? Great instrument. Very simple, yet incredibly complex. Beautiful sound in the mouth of a great player, awful screeching when I try. Bummer. I love to listen, yet in six years, I cannot play a lick.

RiRo: I was thinking uninstall reinstall. No, I play the real harp. But I also play the accordion, which is nothing more than a great big harmonica.... :):)

RiRo: Unfortunately I've never uninstalled and reinstalled before. I'm sure this is a simple process but I'm not sure I know what the steps are. Can you or anyone post a simple set of instructions?

Sure.

Run the install on the SF disk or downloaded file, whichever you used to originally install. It will include an option to remove, and take that option. It will next offer a chance to repair or remove. Go ahead and try the repair, but this has never done anything for me. I still try it when it offers, though. After that does not work, get to the same place and select remove. After it is done, reboot and follow the install process. This generally works to fix a multitude of mishaps.

The Real Harp! Wow. Now that would be wonderful! I play in an air band at church (we play "AIR" instruments while the sound person plays a CD) and since age has taken many of my air-guitar moves away, I now play the AIR accordion. One band member has noted that it is a multi-tasking instrument. It doubles as AIR post-hole-digger.

OK. Shrieking and beating my head against the wall now. I uninstalled using add/remove programs. Then I restarted, and went to reinstall. I get this message, 'The following file is already on your compuer" and it references asf.cab. First I did yes to all -that didn't work forge.exe doesn't want to work. But if I just do yes to the asf.cab, the process begins and then just hangs up. Should it take that long? Yes to all took seconds. Yes to this one thing takes for flippin'ever if it's even working. I'm largely HOSED without SF since I use it to take live music off my mini disc.

Ouch. Try this. use the Find Files or folders to find the file that it says is there. Delete it. Then do a stock install. If that don't work, call or email tech support, they can get you through this.

It gets worse. I used Norton Cleansweep to uninstall and now can't find it to reinstall, although it's supposed to be backed up. Think I'll e-mail tech support again.
