After following all the posts on Acid 4 recently, it was with some trepidation that I installed the 4.0a demo to put it through its paces. I seem to have components that have caused others some problems (i.e. AMD, Via chipset, M-audio Audiophile, etc.). I first tried it with the latest non-beta m-audio drivers. I did have one crash early on. I then used the m-audio wipe driver utility and upgraded to the beta drivers. After that it was smooth sailing. I really put it through its paces in the MIDI department. I loaded up several VSTs including the Edirol Hypercanvas VST I have. This is a pretty beefy synth in terms of system usage. I loaded in some of the sample midi songs they supply which have up to 17 channels of MIDI simultaneous instruments. All played very well. I then tried my own skills and proceeded to record a simple MIDI composition. The results can be found here: http://www.acidplanet.com/Lounge/Detail.asp?PID=201831 I am just a hobbiest so I understand if this isn't your cup of tea. Anyway, while Acid 4.0a may still have some issues, I did find it stable enough to record my own work with confidence. I'll be placing my order for the upgrade today. Hopefully, this will provide some hope for others? -CB |
