Subject:Creating WAV file with the MPEG 3 Layer Format - Need Help!

How do I create a WAV file with a MPEG Layer 3 format? I am trying to use Sound Forge 6.0b.

I do not see this option under Microsoft .WAV, but I do see it under Scotts Studio Wave. But if I select this option under the customs select. It still uses the PCM format.

I know this can be done somehow. Because I have seen other audio files on the internet that are .wav files with the MPEG Layer 3 format.

So can someone please tell me how to set this up to work with Sound Forge 6.0b.

Thanks,

Mike

How about save the file as a .mp3 format and then rename it to change the extension to .wav?

I have tried that, but it doesn't seem to work with several audio programs.

I have SF 5.0f and it's listed under "Save as type" Microsoft (*.wav).
"Format" MPEG Layer-3.

Possibly Forge doesn't provide the codec with the app. but finds it on your system.
WMP 7.1 and later will auto download necessary codecs when you attempt to play a file that uses a codec not on the box. Windows Sound Recorder has this codec with it.
I had to reinstall this codec myself some time ago and forgot where I got it, possibly at the MS Downloads site or you can try here if you don't have it.

http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html

There is a codec section there, this site is provided by one of the WMP developers.
