Subject:To Peter: Still having problems with Event EZbus Asio Driver and Acid 4.0a!

Peter, I posted here a while back reporting that Acid 4.0 and my Event Ezbus weren't playing nice together when I selected the Event EZbus ASIO Driver. The other drivers work fine, but when I choose the Event EZbus ASIO driver, playback becomes sluggish and choppy to the point where its not feasible to use. We walked through a few thing the first time I posted on this issue (http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=118779&Replies=18&Page=36), but came up with no solution to my problem. You said that you would check into the problem with Event. Have you had a chance to get to this? I've installed 4.0a and the latest Event EZbus ASIO Driver and I'm still getting the same problem. Please respond. Thanks in advance, Merlyn |

Meryln, I also am having problems with an Event product, the Layla, similar to what you are experiencing. I also have the EZ bus as well, but am not using it as anything but an audio mixer at the present time. Looks to me like SF really rushed this version out the door way too quickly. I've never had any problems with the previous 3 versions. |

Take note that this is mainly a peer to peer forum. People from SoFo do try to answer here when they can, but if you need immediate help, either contact SoFo by this form or give them a call, as you're entitled to 60 days of free phone support following the registration of ACID Pro. (It's a toll call but there aren't any other charges.) HTH, Iacobus |

MD, Thanks for the info, but tech support has been notified about the problem. Your help is appreciated. I posted directly to Peter because he was nice enough to take the time to try to work out the problem on the forum and also offered to check with Event on a possible solution. Thanks again. Merlyn |

Clarksil, The Event ASIO Driver problems are a drag, but I have faith that the SOFO team is on it! Especially since there have been other reports of problems with Event drivers. Merlyn |

Sadly, Event has not responded to my repeated request for assistance. I had hoped the 4.0a update would resolve your issue. I will keep you posted with regard to any information I can obtain. Thanks Peter |

The Layla, while orginally developed for Event by Echo, is supported by Echo. I am surpised you are having problems with the Layla. The lead driver developer at Echo has been on the ACID 4 beta since well before it was released. I use the Layla 20 everday as one of my main dev devices. If you could tell me what version of the Layla driver you are using, I may be able to help determine the cause of the problems. At the very least I would like to reproduce any of the problems you are having. What is the buffer setting for the Layla ASIO drivers? Can you try the following: Start ACID 4.0a Set up ACID to use the ASIO drivers for the Layla Load the Hybrid Demo project Do you get this far? Can you play? Peter |

You're welcome. Since you're using Windows XP, have you tried any of the tips over at MusicXP.net? I can personally vouch that some of the tips there helped me out a bit. Performance with XP was a little stuttery until I changed my system from using ACPI to "Standard PC", for example. HTH, Iacobus |

Iacobus - Before I had a dual proc. I used the Standard PC mode and it helped a lot. Do you know if it's safe to do this with a dual processor? Are there the same benefits? Thanks! |

Iacobus, Again, I appreciate you attempting to help me out with your good advice (its refreshing when people use this forum for what its intended to be used for), but I've done all the XP tweaking that I could find, including the MusicXP tips. I've had vast experience with XP tweaks because the Pulsar II card that I used before the Event EZbus was a pain in the neck until I tweaked XP out. Again, its much appreciated when people on here give tips that may actually help out with a problem, and, I thank you once again for attempting to help. Merlyn |

I believe you should still have dual-processor support. (Note that multiple processor support is in Windows XP Professional only, not Windows XP Home.) Disabling ACPI just means you're not using the advanced power management features of XP, like letting XP shut down your PC automatically, switching off your monitor, etc. HTH, Iacobus |
