lo and behold something of actual INTEREST has crawled to the top of the pile of my spambox - an invitation from SF to buy Acid Pro 4.0 at what sounds like a great price. but before i lay down the loot, i need to know: 1. is "Acid Pro 4.0" the best "Acid" there is? (best = highest specifications, most features, "flagship" of the product line...) 2. what kind of upgrade path does SF provide for Acid purchasers when the next version comes out? (this counts for a lot) 3. can AP40 handle odd time signatures? (natively, without me having to do some "i'll just ignore the program's bar lines and work by ear" workaround trickery) 4. can AP40 do triplets? (REAL triplets!) in working with this prog in the studio, i came up with a "wish list" a mile long, but triplet and odd-time things are both issues that i just couldn't believe weren't in the prog to begin with - that was back in the days of 2.x i think tho... so... i think that's it for now - THANKS! |

Snappy, 1. Yes, Acid Pro 4 is the bestest Acid in all the land. 2. Patches/revisions are always free. Upgrades (which usually occur every year) are typically $99, but can be more or less, depending on other, case-specific promotions. There are lots of ways to bump down the price of any Sonic Foundry product. It's all about timing and smart shopping (as with any piece of hardware or software). 3. Yes, any signature you can think of. Additionally, the timeline grid changes accordingly. 4. Not sure if you mean triplet-based time signatures, triplet loop patterns, or triplet notes in piano roll, but Acid can do all of these things. Hope this helps, Nick |

1. Ditto what Nick said. (Yes.) 2. If you've bought any version of ACID Pro before 4.0, you're basically locked in for the upgrade price. SoFo usually has special deals when a new version comes out for a limited time for existing users of pervious versions. 3. Yes. You basically insert odd time signatures just like you do markers as you see appropriate. The grid will change itself dynamically to reflect a time signature change. You can insert from 1 to 99 beats per measure and use a beat (note) value from whole to 32nd notes. 4. Yes. Grid resolution can be set from quarter note triplets to 64th note triplets. To get the maximum effect from this feature, you'll have to find loops that use the technique, chop up your own, create your own, or use One-shots in conjunction with the Paint Tool. HTH, Iacobus |

excellent - this tells me all i need to know! btw mD i was talking about "3 notes of truly equal length in a space meant for two" on the piano roll. what exactly is "triplet loop pattern"? fyi, when i said "real" triplets i meant that as opposed to the "dotted-sixteenth, dotted-sixteenth, eighth" workaround that i remember having to use... thanks! |

Actually, that's a question for Nick; he's the one that answered about the triplet loop pattern. :) I know what you meant about true triplets. Iacobus |
