Subject:SB Audigy Problems Posted by: SonicSounds Date:9/29/2002 2:52:35 PM I'm having problems with my computer unexpectedly shutting off when using Acid Pro 4.0a and Sonar 2.0. In Acid it will usualy do it on a song with a lot of tracks. Once it reaches a point in the song where there are many tracks playing, it will stutter (machinegun-style) and just turn off and back on again. No warning. No error message. It just shuts down. It will also do it if I go to open my VSTi control panel for a particular instrument. The thing that's perplexing is that it's not a very consistent problem. Sometimes it will do it, sometimes it won't. In Sonar it seems to shut off when I'm selecting my VSTi instrument (same situation as in Acid). I've never seen anything like this before. I've tried installing it in every PCI slot in the computer to move it to a less populated IRQ but that hasn't really helped. Any help would be appreciated.

Some, such as HALion, actually have their own ASPI DLL's and can potentially access disk controllers and the such when you load them. Also, what type of sound and video cards are you using? It could definitely be related to one of these devices as well. Nate

It actually hasn't done it since I updated my video and bios, although I haven't pushed it as much as I did before. Now my new problem is pops and cracks in the audio when using Creative's ASIO driver. There's currently no update to this driver and Creative's piss-poor customer service wasn't much help. Instead of shutting down like I mentioned in the original post, it begins to distort slightly as a song plays, then heavily after a little while. Sometimes it will just play distorted from the beginning and lock up the program. I have to switch back to my classic windows driver to playback my old projects but then my cursor, timer and other onscreen graphics stutter until everything (including audio) begin to stutter and distort. Creative's ASIO driver only operates at 48khz and all of my projects are 44.1khz. This is odd since the sample files that came with Acid play fine (although they aren't as track and fx-heavy. What is going on?
