Here is what I posted yesterday...

"I've got a bunch of 10 second MP3's that were meant to loop, but I find once I delete the proper amount off each end to make a seamless loop and save it as an MP3, Soundforge automatically adds about a quarter of a second of nothing on each end. When played in a loop after, it's not so seamless anymore.

I can make it play perfectly seamless inside Soundforge, but it kills it when I attempt to save the file as an MP3.

Any suggestions?"

and I got this response

"The extra silence at the beginning and end of the files is required by the definition of the MP3 format. SoundForge is merely following those rules when you save the files. Since they're so short, save them as WAV files instead.

When you edit them to save them as .wav, start with the most original versions you have. If you've opened them and saved them as MP3 files then you've degraded them somewhat each time due to recompressing them. The originals will be better because they won't have been recompressed as much."

which was greatly appreciated, but...

Here's my reply to that response:

Ok, thankyou for your reply, but I just tried saving it as a .wav file and it still added 0.38 seconds of blank space to my loop, making it not so seamless. It seems Soundforge always wants to add some blank space to everything I make and save.

So what's the deal? Is there an easier piece of software out there for my simple task?

This is a limitation of the mp3 format, or at least the Fraunhofer codec. A small amount of silence will always be added to an mp3 file.

You may want to reply to the original thread in the future instead of starting a new one.

I created a whole loop library using Sound Forge to Edit/Acidize -- never once had a problem.
