I just got 4a loaded and absynth133 shows up as a vsti. I don't have my korg hooked up to my delta card yet, just my mouse, how do I record a midi track with absynth? I can see the mixer signal from absynth and I can play/hear it, but when I hit record, the curser turns to a hour glass with no sound or signal? I have no problem with absynth in sonar as a dxi, just hoping acid is simpler? Any help is much apprediated. l |

I think George can handle this question as he uses Absynth, but basically you should have a MIDI input device selected (i.e., your Korg hooked up via your Delta's MIDI in) in the MIDI tab under Options>Preferences on the menu bar. Then under Absynth's VSTi window, enable real-time MIDI and select your external MIDI input port. Then go to the Record window and under MIDI Thru, select the Absynth VSTi. That should do it. Your right Iacobus. I had to steal the korg from my wife ;^), I just hooked it up and that works, I can not figure out how to record with the mouse, I guess it doesn't work that way? This is what I have been waiting for (grin) L |

Indeed, you do have to have some kind of MIDI controller (like a MIDI keyboard) in order to record VSTi's. You can arrange/paint MIDI via something like the Piano Roll Editor and play it through the VSTi without having to record but it's a little cumbersome, considering the alternative. Iacobus |

A little trick Peter hip me to Go into Preferences>General and un-check Close audio and MIDI ports when ACID is not the active application. I don't know what it does but it worked with Absynth 1.3.3 Peter please jump in George Ware |

Because Absynth launches an application, if you switch to this app, ACID will close its audio ports. This disabled realtime preview. To prevent ACID from doing this, you need to disable this pref in ACID. This way you can switch to the Absynth app and keep its "connection" to ACID live. Peter |

Will "Close audio and MIDI ports when ACID is not the active application" have any adverse or other effects on the funtionality of acid or if running acid with other applications? |

It does not hinder ACID. The down side of ACID not closing the ports you have assigned to it is that other apps may not be able to use the same ports. It is very dependent on the driver and the driver model being used. - ASIO is very unshareable from a driver model stand point. For many ASIO drivers only one app can access the audio hardware at a given time. There are some ASIO drivers that let you set up two copies of the driver such that each driver shares the available ports. Aardvark cards let you do this. - Wave MME can be, depending on the drivers. - Wave Emulation of WDM drivers are very shareable, as the sharing is done by Windows and not the driver. The downside to this is the OS adds latency. Peter |

Im a trying to get absynth to plat to seperate banks from two speperate instances. I create two midi tracks. each plating a different riff. I assign absynth to each bus. If i change patches on one the other changes also I tried opening two instances of Absynth in the background but that didnt work. |

I can't repro that Oddboy. What version of Absynth are you running? - Nick |

I have a similar problem, I can play different patches within the same bank, but when I open a different bank it changes the other absy instance to the same bank...hmmmm? l |

Again, what version are you running? 1.3.3, 1.3.1, and any earlier version all exhibit different behavior concerning this topic. - Nick |

I am running 133, Page 38 of manual, Absynth engine can only open one bank at a time, this means you can have one bank of up to 128 presets available for all 8 VST instances, if you want to load a preset not on the bank, use file >import preset. l |

I can get multiple patches to play (using 133), but once I toggle absy instances it resets patches back to the zero patch for any bank. Also, it will not save the patches when I re-open ACID. I re-installed back to 1.3.1 and it saves the patches. l |

L25, Correct. Something changed in 1.3.3 from 1.3.1 thank causes the patches to reset when the synth properties box is opened. I'll write to Native Instruments about this tonight. I wanted to first make sure that this wasn't a user-specific problem. I'll also drop a message to Peter, since he'll probably be able to shed some light on this. - Nick |
