I got a question about "volume normalization". I need to clean up my class notes with the same volume range instead of very loud into a much calmer tone. Does anyone know how I could do this with Sound Forge 6.0? TIA

Wavehammer. If you have Noise Reduction, I would use NR and Wavehammer. Alternately, you can select sections that are too low and just increase the volume, or even use normalize in that manner, but overall I think wavehammer is the way to go.

While WaveHammer or limiting will even out the levels it will also make any annoyinig background noise more noticable if that's a problem. If there is excesssive constant background noise, try running it though noise reduction a few times at a lower db setting opposed to higher db setting just once which can produce undersirable side-effects. Then compress or WaveHammer it some. Additionaly first run it though a hi-pass filter EQ if there is HVAC and/or traffic/evironmental rumble.
