Subject:loops on firewire drive?

My system is used primarily for vegas video. Just getting into audio. I use maxtor DV3000 firewire drive for storage of my video and ACID loop library. I know its not good practice to run video files from the firewire drive. Does the same go for audio? Should I just store my loops on the firewire drive but move the project loops to my video drives for acid projects?

I have a Maxtor firewire drive that holds loops exclusively -- works like a charm. I recently added a second firewire drive - and was surprised to find that it handled video files very well.

for loops -- DEFINITELY.

I second the notion. The loops all end up in the physical memory anyway, so disk speed is irrelevant (unless you're using disk-based loops). I use a 5400 RPM disk to store mine, which certainly isn't fast, but for storage's sake, works no problem.

Performance wise: Definitely agree! Works great for capturing/recording/rendering of vid & aud. Keep a "back up" of your loop creations on CD/DVD. Every once in awhile you'll hear about "firewire issues". Just handle the drive with care....they're not really portable drives(even though....they are).You should be fine!

Even though the 3000DV is pitched for use with DV video, it is on the edge for acceptable through put. Depending on the project, frames can drop during playback. Viewing DV files from a firewire drive to an external NTSC monitor does not work as well as a internal dedicated video drive. YMMV ;^)
