Subject:Acid 4 and SoundForge could do better together?

If possible I’d like to see better integration between Acid 4.0 and SoundForge. Recording a wav file into Acid seems to be OK and I can open the file in SoundForge. But when I make changes in Soundforge they are not reflected automatically in Acid. For example if I do several takes in one recording I end up with a beatmapped file. I open this in acid and edit it down to, say, an 8 second loop. I set the number of beats etc and save it as a loop but when I return to Acid it’s still treated as a beatmapped file. I have to manually change the properties a second time in Acid or drag the file from explorer back onto itself. This is annoying. Also I often seem to get ‘file in use’ error messages within SoundForge (5.0f) and it asks me to save to another file. I can avoid doing this by deleting the track in Acid and then save with the same name but then of course I have to recreate the track again. Are there any ways to avoid these problems – perhaps I’m using the program in the ‘wrong’ way? |

Try doing all of your edits in Sound Forge, including using its ACID loop creation tools. (Go to Options>Preferences on the menu bar and then click the Toolbars tab to see the tools. You can also use them under the Special menu on the menu bar.) After making all of your edits and saving in Sound Forge, switch back to ACID. Access the track's properties and click the Reload button. Delete the event on the timeline and paint or draw it back in. (Hold down CTRL on your keyboard while clicking with the Erase Tool or while right-clicking with the Paint Tool. This will erase the entire event in one shot.) There are more tips for tweaking your loops in Sound Forge, including using its Loop Tuner, but that's a tad more complicated. Post back if you want to know how to use it. If you'd like to do it on your own, check out the full version of the Sound Forge 5 manual. HTH, Iacobus |

Thanks Iacobus. I'll try using the reload button. I hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it. I do edit my loops in SoundForge though I don't know what the Loop Tuner is. Any information would be appreciated. However, you make my point. If I've opened SoundForge through Acid why should I need to click a reload button or repaint the track? Surely Acid should automatically update the file according to the changes made in SoundForge? Chris |
