Can anyone within the Foundry community tell me why the SF 6 makes a hidden .sf0 file when any audio is loaded for editing? I want to stress that these files are hidden, and if for some reason the app crashes that file remains. It reacts like the temp file that it is when you close out the window, but it took me days to figure out this hidden file situation and how to find it. Is there a way to disable this function within the program? Thanks in advance, Rob Foundation |

You must be editing compressed files (MP3, WMA, PCA, etc.). In order to edit this file, Sound Forge creates a proxy file which is an uncompressed version. All the edits are performed on this proxy file while the program is running. When you save, this proxy file is recompressed back to the original format (or whatever format you specify if you Save As). I never realized they were hidden because i always set up Explorer to show all hidden files. This makes backing up system directories to CDs a lot more useful. |

There is a checkbox in Options->Preferences->File tab called "Hide new temporary files". Be sure that it is unchecked. It should be unchecked by default. Also, unless you work between Vegas or ACID and Sound Forge or work on very large files and want to keep peak and proxy files around, you'll probably want to check the "Delete temporary files on close" option. |
