Subject:No MIDI note data passes thru to sequencer app using SMPTE Trigger->Acid 3-> VMR ->Cakewalk Pro 4 sequencer

Acid Pro 3.0 doesn't seem to pass MIDI note data via VMR (Virtual Midi Router) to my downstream program Calkwalk Pro 4.0. Does anybody have any experience with this type of setup? I'm slaving Acid to my tape deck via SMPTE (it locks fine), then generating MIDI clock from Acid, slaving Cakewalk Pro 4.0 to Acid (it locks fine). However, when I try to record MIDI performances, no data is recorded except initial controller pedal events (which I think are just controller resets). MIDI performances are recorded just fine to Acid when it's not slaved to SMPTE (Acid doesn't allow for simultraneous SMPTE sync AND MIDI record, as far as I know, which is a fundamental problem), and Cakewalk works fine as a SMPTE slaved sequencer operating as a standalone. So, I know that the MIDI performance data is getting into my 'puter. It just seems to hit a closed door when it reaches the VMR, although the VMR documentation states that ALL MIDI DATA is passed thru to the downstream program, which in my case is my Cakewalk sequencer. If Acid would trigger from 'MIDI clock' rather than only SMPTE I would be fine, then I could line up Cakewalk as the first application, then slave Acid to Cakewalk. My goal is to have the best of both worlds: looping and sequencing....combined, of course, with my analog tape tracks. I'm running a Pentium III 550MHZ with SoundBlaster Platinum Live soundcard, I have no throughput problems, and I use a MidiMan Syncman SMPTE box from my Fostex A-80 tape deck to the computer. I have 5 or 6 outboard MIDI interfaces (sound modules, Fatar SL1100 controller) with no problems there. Your ideas would be appreciated, thanks. Bill |

Bill, Have you tried using MIDI Ox to route your MIDI data? It contains quite a few more features than our VMR, or Hubis Loopback. You can download it here: http://www.midiox.com/ The least it could do would be to help you narrow down exactly what is being passed from ACID to Cakewalk. It can log the MIDI stream sent through any of it's virtual devices. Hope this helps, Nate |
