Subject:I think I've solved the riddle as to why Acid 4 crashes

After pulling out most of my hair trying to sort this out, I think I've solved it. I use the folowing system

a) Windows XP Professional, Epox 8KHA KT 266 chipset, DDR Ram, with on-board AC97 audio, 4X AGP connector, 6pci slots, Zoltrix Genie Pro TV Card, SB Audigy 24 bit 100db S/N card, on-board USB connectors (2), 256MB DDR Ram, BTC 16X Cd Writer, Aopen DVD Rom 16X, 80GB Maxtor 5400rpm H/D, 40GB Maxtor 5400 RPM H/D, HP 930C PRinter, HP 4300 Scanner (A4).

Firstly this may require that you do the following :

Re-format your hard drive (NTFS) format. Load Windows XP Pro. Please make sure that your audigy sound card and any other card is not in your PC. Prior to installing windows make sure that you disable your on-board sound card (including your midi ports and game port adresses).

Switch your PC off and plug in your Audigy Sound Card. Wait for windows to start and detect your sound card. Auto detection will commence from windows side. Cancel all requests from windows side to update the driver. Then goto creative labs web site and download latest driver (should have an EXE extension). This is very important, do not load any of the software that came with your audigy sound card. Load and run only the latest audigy driver from creative web-site. Re-boot, load acid 4, run and enjoy.

The problem was essentially in ASIO drivers from the original creative audigy CD. Windows XP was having a problem laoding this driver together with the new drivers from the creative site. In some cases my pc kept on re-setting itself and refused to boot up again.

Hope this works for you guys that are having similar problems. Please let me know. One Last thing, if you are going to take any further chances with loading the original audigy CD, I recommend that you first insert a second hard drive, like the way I've done it, and use nortons ghost to back up your orginal drive where you have Windows XP loaded together with all the tricks above to have a backup, just in case. If there is a problem, then use nortons ghost to restore your hard drive to its original content in about three minutes. No hassles. To use nortons ghost, boot from a stiffy or a CD (windows 98), then run nortons ghost whilst in DOS mode.

The newest drivers from Creative also fix a playback cursor position problem in ACID. The previous ASIO driver would give back really bad position information. This could mess with ACID in may dramatic ways.

So have I.

1. Don't use any Soundblaster products ever.
2. Wait for 4.0b - no amount of screwing with 4.0 or 4.0a will get any desired results. The problems with Acid Pro 4.0 are splattered all over this board. This app just isn't stable. Stay with Acid Pro 3.0g
