Remember that using the Gapper will slow down your audio, while the Snipper will speed it up. (You're essentially inserting (Gapper) or cutting (Snipper) audio from the original file.)

You're probably better off taking snippets of the file via the Chopper (if you're using ACID Pro) and inserting that across the grid.

Also remember that the Gapper Snipper is not a time-coherent plug-in, which means that it stretches/shrinks time before ACID gets a chance to do anything with it, which means that there is a serious potential for disaster as the read-ahead buffers fill up. There's a note about this in the readme, and it's been this way since v1.0. If you're finding that ACID's working properly with time-altering plugs, then feel free, but be aware that it's not unlikely that something strange could happen as a result of using time-altering plugs.

HTH,
Joel

PS-I'd also choose to use the chopper for this application. <g>

OK but all that said! for instance if I should take the relevant sample out of the acid inviourment and apply this affect to the sample how do I achieve a rhythmic quality to it?

can anyone describe how they use gapper snipper? why would you use it, when you can use the chopper. I have tried it before, never with very good results, and it seems to hit the proc pretty hard.

skot, you hit that on the head. you're going to want to use the gapper-snipper outside of the acid environment, and do your work destructively, saving to a new file. also note that it's kind of a "boutique" effect, IOW, not standard.

you can think of it a little like the express fx stutter plug-in, or a hard square amplitude modulation, except that it adds/subtracts time every period. it's certainly not for use on every bit of material, but if you're looking for something special, just experiment a bit, running the gamut from very short and frequent gaps to the other extreme. it really depends on the material, and not all material is suitable--if you find something you like, use it.

Joel

Indeed, some really cool and interesting effects can be had just by playing around with the Gapper/Snipper, especially in something like Sound Forge. Mangle it! >:o)
