I have a very annoying little problem with editing in SF5.0 (my only problem - all else is super). Very often, when I have a selection magnified on the screen, I grab (left click/hold) an edge of it to change it's width, and the time magnification abruptly changes, causing me to lose my place and have to spend time finding my original selection and trying to remember how I was going to adjust it before I was so rudely interrupted. It happens very frequently and causes me a lot of wasted time and effort. |

The zoom level actually changes? Touching the mousewheel perhaps? Or is it just scrolling? If so, you can slow down the scroll a bit by holding down the Control key as you drag. You can also fine tune the current region end by holding down Ctrl+Shift while using the mousewheel. J. |

J. - thanks for the response. Yes, the zoom level changes, without touching the wheel. This is when I am stopped with a selection in view in the window, and I grab the edge with the double-pointed arrow. The moment I left-click, the magnification changes. Has nothing to do with scrolling. It also, less frequently, happens when the window is in Play mode (the soundtrack in motion), and I place the Edit Tool at a point on the screen where I want to put the cursor. The moment I left-click to place the cursor, the magnification changes. I've been using Sound Forge for my editing project 20-30 hours per week since I started in May '02, and this is the only problem I have with it. Otherwise, I love this program. |

Very odd. I have the same mouse and never heard of this before. A few suggestions: 1) try another mouse to rule out any mechanical problems 2) check the IntelliPoint control panel and see if anything looks amiss (like program-specific assigns or something) 3) use regedit to navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Microsoft Input Devices\Mouse\Exceptions and see if there is a sub-entry for forge.exe. This entry tells the mouse to disable it's universal scroll behavior for forge. J. |

Folder 1002 in the location you described is a Forge.exe file. Everything in the mouse control panel looks fine. I have never had any other problem of any kind with this mouse, although forge is a different type of application than anything else I've ever used it for. Trying a different mouse is a good eliminator test, but I don't know where to get a substitute. I'll see what I can come up with, and get back to you. Thanks! |
