Hi, Acid 4.0 works great w digi 001 except I can't record directly into acid, my system crashes. I have to record on sound forge or some other program, then open the file in acid. The tech people at PT and SF tried their best (over 1.5 hours total of support!)and couldn't figure it out. I'm still working on that problem. The bright side is other than that rec problem-it works great, sounds great too. I compose loops in acid, and save as a .wav file. Next, open the file in pro tools using the "import audio" feature in ptle. Set the bpm (tempo) the same in pro tools as set in acid and it all lines up wonderfully for editing in grid mode. Then I just record my remaining audio in pro tools and take advantage of the cool rtas fx and editing etc we all know and love. Another cool thing is if you want to change your mix after loading the .wav file to PT, you can always go back into acid, edit the loops, save again, and import again. I would reccommend acid it's a dynamite combo with pt! Oh, and forget about running both programs at once, that's not allowed. I'm running win98se PIII 1Ghz intel 512ram Hope this helps, Victone |

Digidesign just released beta ASIO drivers for WinXP for most of their audio interfaces! I haven't had a chance to try any of them yet, but here is the link: http://www.digidesign.com/news/hotnews/asio_driver/ |

I tried to run Acid 4.0a & Pro Tools LE on my PC and unfortunately could not manage them to work simultaneously. First I opened Acid. Went to Acid preferences and switched audio to ASIO. Then tried to open Pro Tools. Resulted in not being able to open Pro Tools. Then I tried the other way around. I opened Pro Tools first and then Acid. In Acid's audio preferences, ASIO was no longer displayed as a choice. Anyone know the correct steps in setting this up? |

You're not supposed to be able to run them at the same time. The deal with the ASIO drivers is that now you can route the audio from any ASIO-enabled software(ACID, REASON, LIVE, etc) thru your Digi hardware. In the past, the only audio allowed thru the ProTools hardware was audio coming from ProTools. If you wanted to hear audio from other software, you had to use a mixer as a routing switch to your speakers(with your soundcard going into one input on the mixer and the DIGI output going to another input) OR have an actual seperate monitoring system for the other audio programs you use. So, for example, if you were using the MBox on your laptop and wanted to use ACID...you couldn't 'cuz the audio was routed out thru the MBox NOT the computer soundcard. Now the audio from ACID comes out thru the MBox, provided you are using the Digidesign ASIO driver. It works great, by the way. Hope this clears it up. |

ASIO is typically a one app at a time audio driver. That is, the ASIO driver is not shareable or multiclient. Some ASIO drivers can support this, but you must set the hardware/driver up to allocate multiple ASIO devices. I doubt that when PTools allocates the Digi hardware that it permits any sharing to occur. This would prevent the ASIO driver from initializing and there for ACID would not expose it as it is unavailable. It should be noted that some ASIO drivers will just crash your system if multiple hosts try to connect to the driver. Peter |
