If anyone knows how to get Sound Forge to append a second or two of dead air onto a file when saving as an mp3, please post a reply! thanks.

Are you referring to a file that already has extra blank space that you want to edit out? Or are you referring to the tiny bit of silence that Sound Forge adds to both ends of an MP3 file when saving (much less than a second) ?

If it's the first, then highlight the space you want to get rid of and hit the delete key. then save.
If it's the second, then no, it's part of the MP3 specification.
